3000 to get new payroll application

Longtime HP 3000 spreadsheet and report writer supplier AICS Research announced it will be launching a new payroll application for the 3000 built around its QueryCalc product, with delivery scheduled before the end of this year. The application project firmed up when AICS customers learned that Cort Directions will not be supporting its HP 3000 payroll package after May of 2000 in favor of Cort’s PC-based package.

AICS Research has written payroll packages for moderate to large companies several times as part of its time-sharing services, which began in 1977. The experience took place in a variety of states under differing union contract rules and taxing districts. The company also owns and operate a subsidiary company, AICS Tax Services, that performs tax filings for other regional corporations and individuals.

President Wirt Atmar said that the IMAGE-based payroll package will include run-time versions of QueryCalc and Adager bundled into the product. “Report writing is the most elaborate and time-consuming portion of creating a payroll application,” Atmar said. “QueryCalc allows us not only to create reports with extraordinary ease, but also the capacity to generate standard forms and reports that will be indistinguishable from standard federal forms. Adager will allow us user-invisible, background database restructurings and reoptimizations.” The product will also employ the AICS terminal emulator QCTerm.

The AICS announcement prompted a posting of existing Year 2000-compliant HP 3000 payroll solutions from Genesis Total Solutions (205.252.9446). HP 3000 financial applications ready for the Year 2000 are also available from 20-year supplier Mitchell Humphrey & Co.(800.237.0028).
