CSY takes on line printers, gives up the

SIGPRINT chairman Steve Hammond reported in his Special Interest Groups online newsletter that the HP 3000 division is taking on ownership of the LP line of printers on November 1, while passing on its LaserJet D640 work to another HP group. The LP Series is HPs state of art for line printers, at times has been suggested by HP as a high volume alternative to the discontinued-but-still serving 2680 laser printers. Hammond reports, development and marketing for the D640 moved from CSY to the LaserJet Solutions Group in Boise. HP still considers the D640 a strategic product and will continue to market it as a high volume, lowest cost of ownership solution. The price of the printer was reduced to $12,495 on July 1, and the price of consumables was also reduced by 20 percent. Troy Systems has taken a D640 and modified it for check printing; adding high quality MICR fonts, specialized magnetic toner and built in security features. The product is called the TROY 540 MICR Laser Printer. Check out their web site at www.troymicr.com. Hammond, a strong supporter of the HP 3000, is running a board seat on Interex this fall.
