HP puts 7.0 Communicator online

HP e3000 customers considering a move to the 7.0 release of MPE/iX can look over technical documentation for the release online this month. HP has revamped its documentation pages for the system, making them easier to search on the Web and downloadable as Acrobat PDF files. The new documentation, including other manuals such as the NMMGR Screens Reference Manual, is available at docs.hp.com/mpeix/os/7.0.

Technical articles in the 7.0 Communicator include details on new networking features; the find by record number enhancement for Query/iX which permits the retrieval of a specific record in a dataset; and the introduction of the concept of BIGPIN. The term refers to an e3000’s ability to support greater than 8,190 concurrent processes. HP reports the 7.0 release is BIGPIN capable, but the BIGPIN feature (which is configurable) will not be enabled. In a future release of MPE/iX, customers will be notified how to turn on the BIGPIN feature.
