September 2001
Livermore keynote includes promo of HP e3000,
MPE/iX
President of HP Services Ann Livermore
featured MPE/iX and the e3000 in her keynote address kicking off the
HP World conferences first full day. The only round of applause
which interrupted Livermores speech came when she listed all of
HPs strategic operating systems, ending with MPE/iX. We
offer a choice of operating environments, and we think thats
really important, ranging from Linux, to HP-UX, to Windows, to
MPE. She paused, then said, See? I didnt forget
MPE.
The president went
on to add that HP designed the HP e3000, the A- and N-Class
servers we introduced earlier this year, specifically to power the
compute-intensive applications todays corporations need. With
new solutions and also greater performance compared to the previous
3000 systems, we think these systems are ideal for many of
todays complex data management and Web-enabled applications.
For those of you who want to continue operating with your 3000 MPE
environment, we think this is very important.
Livermores
talk was just one of several mentions of the 3000s operating
environment during HP keynotes. Nora Denzels presentation about
storage included MPE/iX, and Chief Technology Officer Rich Demillo
said that HP isnt getting out of the Unix business,
isnt getting out of Windows, isnt getting out of
MPE/iX, while commenting on the rise of Linux in the
companys strategy. HPs booth presentation also
highlighted the diversity of its environment offerings. A comic book
summarizing the live script noted that remember that word,
flexibility? Well, HP offers all four platforms: MPE/iX, Windows,
HP-UX and Linux. Fully compatible, of course.
