Quest
offers Quark+ MPE archiving tool for initial free trial
Quest Software
(949.754.8000, www.quest.com) is
offering its Quark+ archival compression software for Independent
Software Vendors in the e3000 community for one year of free
use.
The software, which is in use in HPs
operations, can compress file sizes to as small as 20 percent of
their original size, according to Quests MPE Program Manager
Joe Longtin.
The goal is to get exposure for our Quark+
product, Longtin said. The large file sizes of MPE/iX
applications may be one roadblock to selling software through the
Web, he said. If ISVs maximize the use of this tool, they could
sell HP e3000 software over the Internet, tax free. Other uses
for the software might be in support situations where a file transfer
is required.
The 3000 community has a no-cost option for file
compression and decompression in LZW. The Quest product is the first
commercial MPE/iX compression solution to get a full year of free
trial for both customers and ISVs.
Quark+ files can be decompressed with UnQuark+,
available to the entire HP e3000 customer base at the Quest Web site,
www.quest.com/quark_isv_program. Quark+ preserves user environment
information and directory structures, and it works with both MPE and
Posix namespace files. Decompression and compression take place
native on the e3000; no other platform is required.
ISVs which want to use the software can register for
a year of free use and download the product from the Quest Web site
with a one-year key. Customers can download UnQuark+ and a one-year
key, as well as a 60-day demo of the full Quark+ product.
