Just at the end of March, the ownership of UK-based CODA financial software shifted once more, this time back to the United Kingdom and a company with plenty of AS/400 experience. Science Systems on March 31 announced the completion of its acquisition of the Coda business from the Dutch software company Baan for a total consideration of $49.3 million. CODA has been a major business partner of Science Systems for over a decade, since its software has been bundled with Science Systems solutions. Bradmark has been working on CODA to get the accounting applications a new interface, by way of the VB-View product which Bradmark sells. Now the dance that was begun with Baan starts anew with Science Systems. Baan had no interest in the proprietary platforms supported by CODA. At least CODA’s new owners will see the advantages of proprietary technology, since they hail from the world of AS/400s.
