6.0’s final year starts soon, and ends even sooner for Ecometry

In just about one year the 6.0 release of MPE/iX goes off HP support, but users of the fastest-growing application for the e3000 will be stepping off 6.0 even sooner. Ecometry, formerly known as Smith-Gardner, reminded customers that it will be dropping support for MPE/iX 6.0 enhancements on its MACS and Ecometry non-store retail applications, beginning June 1. “We cannot upgrade our development machines until the Ecometry client-base has also upgraded, due to the fact that MPE/iX 6.5 is not backward compatible,” the Ecometry directive reported. “Subroutine code compiled on MPE/iX 6.5 will not run on a system running MPE/iX 6.0 and prior. We request that you upgrade your systems to MPE/iX 6.5 or higher sometime between now and and May 2001. It is vital that you upgrade your systems to MPE/iX 6.5, since code compiled on MPE/iX 6.5 is not compatible with previous versions of the operating system.” After Ecometry upgrades its R&D, it will no longer be able to send code to a client who is on a previous version of the operating system.
