HP set up an Open Source home for e-speak

HP hired Collab.Net to build, host and maintain the Open Source software development infrastructure and Web site for e-speak technology. The HP e3000 is running the current version of e-speak in the e3000 labs in California, and general manager Winston Prather said his group is looking at the best place to deploy the language. HP says that e-speak “dramatically simplifies the creation, composition, deployment, management, and maintenance of e-services over the Internet.” The new e-speak site at www.e-speak.net will provide Web-based development life-cycle management services, including code versioning, bug tracking, and e-mail discussion forums that HP says “are key to a well-run Open Source software community.”

One useful item on the new Web site is the slide presentation HP has been giving to explain what e-speak is. If you’re wondering how this new language might help in your HP server development, go to www.e-speak.ne t/features/alan/sld001.html to see the presentation by Chief Scientist Alan Karp. There’s also an e-speak tutorial on the new site. e-speak code management services will be provided through Code Version System (CVS) repositories; a version of the Gnu CVS freeware is available for the HP 3000 from the 3000 division’s Jazz Web site. The CVS software is also used in the HP 3000’s Shared Source project.
