Users and HP make contact at HP World

Community Networking Lounge scores big impact at conference

The COBOL community has always formed a big component of the HP 3000 world. New faces from the IBM world brought new ideas to HP World in Chicago, while the lore of model years gone past was celebrated at the end of the SIG-COBOL meeting during a HP 3000 Trivia Contest.

Not all of the iron the HP World show floor came from HP's model lineup. Christian Schneider of PIR Group brought his roadster to the show, along with other hot metal: the latest iSeries eServer i5 from IBM to demonstrate COBOL migrations away from the HP 3000 onto a proven business platform.
Tradition was served at HP World, along with champagne, as the 3000 community celebrated with a Trivia Contest on the heels of the SIG-COBOL meeting. From left, HP's Mike Paivinen heaps up with goodies, while trivia organizer Jeanette Nutsford and HP 3000 lab director Ross McDonald look on. Nutsford retired as SIG-COBOL co-chair at the conference.
