Migrations from PowerHouse can get Quick now

Customers who use HP 3000 PowerHouse implementations and want to migrate them to the Windows NT/2000 environment have had Cognos software available to do the job. But they’ve had to wait for the Quick engine to become more than something for design purposes only, meant to be run under PowerHouse Web. Version 8.41 of PowerHouse for Windows NT/2000/XP, released on June 23, has a complete Quick implementation that gives developers a “green screen” capability. “Normally you would run it in a DOS window (i.e., the Command Console window), said product manager Bob Deskin. “You can use a Telnet client if it emulates the DOS window, but there aren’t many that do. However, since the cost is the same (we license by user count) you’re better off running on the PC rather than as a client. You can still access remote databases and use remote screens (i.e., use PROCLOC to point to a network drive).” Applications can also be run using Windows Terminal Services, but customers warned that Cognos may not want to support WTS.
