Logging on to HP
3000 systems via host-based Telnet or NS/VT has been the connection vehicle
of choice for many users for some time now. The problem of logon packets
including unencrypted passwords flying by in the clear on the net has
always been a major security deficiency. The connection of more 3000
systems to the Internet makes this problem even worse. If one or more
terminal emulator vendors are willing to cooperate with HP to implement a
secure logon scheme, will CSY management make this a short-term high
priority?
Pam Bennett: I think this is something we would be open to. As we have more people on the Internet it will become an even larger problem. One of things we have to be careful of is how much resource it would take from CSY. We have to prioritize it with other things. One other thing in the lab are
things going on with security, SSL, encryption and authentication. That
might be able to feed into this and help out. |
