WRQ offers new admin, security features
in Reflection Web
WRQ will be shipping the 5.0 release of
Reflection for the Web later this month, software that adds new
remote administration capabilities and support for the LDAP and
Microsoft Active Directory services.
The software enables HP 3000 managers to deploy
terminal window sessions to users by publishing a Web address. The
WRQ product launches Java applets on a users browser to help
Web-enable applications. Customers wanted more Web-based
administration in the product, according to product manager Donovan
Deakin.
They wanted to be able to go to a different
location, or work from home, and wanted everything to be saved on the
server, Deakin said. No matter where you work from, when
you make configuration changes, you dont lose them.
The new version adds RSA authentication
more of an industry standard, and simpler to configure,
Deakin said and key exchange for SSL security. It also
increases encryption key lengths to 2,048 bits, up from 1,024. User
based authentication, being requested by healthcare organizations, is
a new 5.0 feature as well.
In addition to support for OpenLDAP directory
support native to MPE/iX Reflection for the Web also supports
Sun, Novell and IBM directory services. WRQ has also added a
Reflection Emulator Class Library, based on the IBM HACL standard,
for advanced customization, integration and scripting.
Customers want a more event-based API, Deakin said.
The 5.0 upgrade is free to customers on support, and
the software costs $115 per concurrent seat and $229 for single,
named-user licenses.
