HP started a public beta test of
new inventory software for 3000s
HP posted its
first cut at its new SIU software inventory utility for HP 3000s up
on its Jazz Web site, the first HP tool for assisting in migration
efforts. SIU can be downloaded from jazz.external.hp.com/src/scripts/siu.
Creator Jeff Vance of HP, whos also on the board of directors
of OpenMPE, Inc., said the tool consists of a CI script, a
database reading program file, the source to this program, and a
simple file that maps account names to vendor company names. SIU
scans your system looking at all databases, groups, directories and
accounts, and attempts to categorize your inventory of files. The
goals for this tool are twofold: 1) Help customers who are planning
on migrating off of MPE better understand what are the important
files they need to consider they may have long forgotten that
they are using some obscure IMAGE database or something like that. 2)
It should be useful to system managers staying on MPE. Vance
said HP expects a full public release of the software in
mid-February, probably available as a download from the Jazz site. Copyright The 3000 NewsWire. All rights reserved |
